Charles C. Roberts began martial arts in 1973 at the age of six years old. He studied Shoto Kan from 1973 – 1979 under Phil Koeppell earning a brown belt, also he studied Tae Kwon Do at the Brownridge Karate school in 1981. After moving from Illinois to Minneapolis in 1993, Charles began training at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy under the tutelage of Khun Kru Greg Nelson. The structure at the academy was very free flowing, where one could study one art after another, with little boundaries. In the fall of 2000, Khun Kru Greg Nelson asked if Charles wanted to teach the JKD masters program with Dave Durenberger, he gladly accepted the mission. Teaching has many wonderful lessons in it and also the students are a constant learning experience in itself. In February of 2001, Charles earned his Apprentice Instructorship in JKD and Filipino Martial Arts under Guru Dan Inosanto. In April 2003 he passed his beginning diploma test under Ajarn Chai Sirisute.
